a syllipsi outing.

This Thursday, November 1st at 5:00 pm we will gather in the vk parking lot and head out together for a night on the town. get dressed up and come to the Art Walk in Downtown Santa Barbara. we will cruise through the art galleries and make a special stop at the Brook's photography gallery on Cota. this is a chance to expose ourselves to the local art and photography scene and should be tons of fun. we hope you all can come. for more information check out the First Thursdays Art Walk website here

Brooks Institute will host Santa Barbara’s first Heart Gallery event. This exhibition aims to raise awareness for childhood adoption and is among 40 galleries nationwide that have already helped to place hundreds of children. These inspirational images, shot and donated by Brooks faculty and Alumni photographers, portray local area children in need of adoptive families. Founded by the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD), Heart Gallery exhibits serve as an innovative program to recruit adoptive families and raise public awareness.

photo fridays.

photo fridays, eh? what does that mean? well, let me tell you. this is our weekly photo challenge. we will come up with a theme for the week, and you will go out and take photos with that theme in mind. then you will submit your photos every wednesday and we will get together thursdays at 9pm to show and critique each others' work. we will pick our favorites and, on friday, we will post the week's favorite three images on the blog for a little shout out and some internet love. we will also then announce the next week's theme. got it? so fun, i know. i can't wait to see started. get pumped!

post-fair thanks.

thanks for stopping by the table today at the fair. we were stoaked at the amount of interest we got from all you all. so we are gonna do this! we are so pumped. check out the posts i made earlier today about the two events this week that Brooks is putting on. you all should go if you get a chance. these will not be offical syllipsi events because they came up so quickly but we wanted to pass along the opportunity and do encourage you to go on your own if you can. aiight?

Eli Reed is a 20-year member of Magnum Photos, one of the world’s leading photography cooperatives founded 60 years ago. Especially known for his work in El Salvador, Guatemala and Beirut, Reed has been recognized with many awards including the W. Eugene Smith Grant in Documentary Photography. He directed the video documentary “Getting Out” about gangs in Detroit.

Anne Day is a freelance photographer and writer based in New York and Connecticut. Editorial clients include TIME, Newsweek, the New York Times and the Washington Post. She has worked on seven Day in the Life books as an assignment editor and photographer. Her overseas work includes photographs
made in Haiti, Cuba and South Africa. She has been the principal photographer on several books about the architecture of the Library of Congress, the New York Public Library and the U.S. Capitol.
